AEIS, which stands for Admissions Exercise for International Students, is a centralized admissions process conducted by the Ministry of Education (MOE) every year around September/October. It is designed for new international students who want to join our mainstream public primary and secondary schools in January of the following year. The AEIS consists of a centralized test in English and Mathematics, and students who pass the test will be offered a place in a suitable school.
This exercise is specifically for new international students who wish to be admitted to Primary 2–5 and Secondary 1–3. It's important to note that Primary 6 and Secondary 4 are critical levels where students take major exams towards the end of the year. Therefore, parents should consider that it may not be in their child's best interest to be admitted at these critical levels of Primary 6 and Secondary 4.
For international students seeking admission to Primary 1 (P1) in the current academic year, they can directly approach schools to apply for admission. However, this is subject to the availability of vacancies and the admission criteria set by the schools. International students who are aged 6 or older but below 7 as of January 1st in the year of admission can apply to their school of choice during Phase 3 of the P1 Registration Exercise. This allows them to secure admission to P1 in the following year.
