Tutor’s Teaching Background

I focus on making sure students genuinely understand concepts and build a strong foundation for long-term academic progress. I have 10 years of experience working with children and currently teach Preschool to Primary 5 students in both English and Math. As a full-time home tutor, I customise my lessons and prepare my own materials according to each student’s strengths, weaknesses and learning needs. I regularly use revision exercises and past-year papers to assess a student’s readiness, identify gaps and target areas that require further improvement.

For English, a strong foundation in basic language skills is essential before progressing to more challenging comprehension, grammar and writing tasks. If a student has significant gaps, I can go back to the fundamentals and build their skills progressively. For Math, I emphasise on understanding keywords, model drawing, problem-solving strategies and showing clear, step-by-step workings. Currently, on weekends, I’m teaching at a well-known tuition centre specialising in heuristics and problem sums. This has further strengthened my experience in teaching higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills.

I am patient, consistent and committed to helping students improve. I also understand the importance of building a student’s confidence alongside their academic ability. Having personally improved my own PSLE English grade from C to an A in 2007 through self-improvement, I understand that students can make significant progress when they are given the right guidance, practice and support.
