Tutor’s Teaching Background

I have been teaching math to pri and sec school students over the past 8 years, well versed in managing students of various backgrounds, from the ones with a lower competency, special needs (ADHD) or underprileged backgrounds. I do both online and physical 1 on 1 tuition. Over the years, my students have shown me varying degrees of competency, but one thing stays common and that is my interest to harness their passion in mathematics. I think that is the most important thing a child needs to have to develop a sense of achievement in what they do. I focus on this, before tailoring my methods to helping them work on their weaker concepts. I utilise various learning materials and get them to do targeted practice. My students have noted marked improvements in their results and their parents have often noted significant changes in their attitudes as well. Till this day, I am still in contact with some of them. Some notable students: P5 boy with mild ADHD, 2023 - now, taught him pri sch math Olympiad.Boy was very intellectually capable of handling Olympiad questions but it came at the expense of his mild ADHD condition. The key to delegating work and attention on these students effectively is through patience. Talk to them slowly, understand where they are coming from. Recognising their social cues and be aware of their needs. Use incentives to encourage them to complete work and grasp their attention through visual depictions. He has thoroughly enjoyed my lessons and continuing them till this day. Sec 2 girl with behavioural issues, 2020-2021, taught her lower sec math. She was highly rebellious, would not listen or engage with anyone. Mother was at her wits end and was desperate for advice. The key for me was to interact with her casually without being too authoritative with the risk of putting her off. She managed to open up more to me and was receptive to my teaching methods after realising that we had quite a bit of common topics to talk about. There were times she showed defiance, but her mother noted that it was a marked improvement from her usual behaviour and was thankful for me to stick by with her. She showed renewed passion for maths and did well for her year end exams. 2 grade 10 brothers studying in international school, 2026, taught them upper pri mathBoth brothers are hyperactive, received feedback that they were very difficult to handle, mother wants me to come in and help them learn local math syllabusInteract with them casually at the start, bring their attention back when necessary. Let the two of them work together as a team instead of creating a rivalry between them. Both of them are happy with me and would like to continue. Mother noted marked improvement in their enthusiasm for maths. I believe that I am the one to guide your child and thank you for your support!
