Tutor’s Teaching Background

I have more than ten years of teaching and tutoring experience in Singapore and South Korea. Before relocating to Korea, I worked as a private tutor in Singapore for approximately six years, teaching students at primary, secondary and pre-university levels. I supported both local and international students following the Singapore-Cambridge GCE syllabus and international curricula, including the IB and IGCSE programmes. My tutoring experience includes English, Social Studies, History and the humanities. For English, I taught reading comprehension, composition and essay writing, grammar, vocabulary, critical thinking and examination preparation. I also prepared primary-level international students for the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS), including English, Mathematics and general examination skills. For Mathematics and Science, I supported students with foundational concepts, problem-solving strategies, examination techniques and the application of knowledge to different question types. Lessons were adapted to each student’s level, school syllabus and areas of difficulty, with particular emphasis on building confidence, strengthening core skills and explaining complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner. After moving to Korea, I taught at private language academies for approximately two to three years, working with students of different ages and English-proficiency levels. I currently teach at a well-established university, where I deliver English-medium classes and workshops, develop interdisciplinary course materials, facilitate discussions, and guide university students in academic writing, research, presentations and critical analysis. I hold a Master’s degree in History and now wish to focus primarily on English, History, Mathematics, Science and humanities education. My specialist areas include World History, East Asian History and Korean History, particularly modern Korea, China and Japan, colonialism, imperialism, nationalism, the Cold War, democracy, communism and political ideologies. I am able to support IB and international-school students with historical content, source analysis, comparative thinking, essay planning, argument development, research skills and academic writing. For Mathematics and Science, I can assist students with understanding key concepts, working through difficult questions, developing effective problem-solving methods and preparing for school assessments and examinations. Lessons can be adapted to each student’s syllabus, current school topics, assignments, areas of difficulty and examination requirements. I have experience conducting both face-to-face and online lessons through Zoom. As a native English speaker who is also fluent in Korean and Mandarin, I am able to communicate effectively with students from diverse linguistic, cultural and educational backgrounds.
