Tutor’s Teaching Background

  I have taught 2 students while I am an undergraduate in NTU. These are my experiences with these 2 students:    One of the students that I have taught is my own cousin. He is in NA stream, and I help out with his science and math. For math, I help him understand how to answer questions and guide him in figuring out which formulas to use for which question. Similarly, for science, I will go through concepts that he doesn't really understand to help him have a clearer picture of the topic. He has a short attention span, so I take quite frequent breaks. I realize it is difficult to teach when they are not engaged. I enjoyed teaching him because he was not difficult to work with. He did managed to much better after I started tutoring, mainly because he doesn't really pay attention in school and now there is someone to help him explain what he has missed when not paying attention.    My other student however is extremely playful. As part of my volunteering CCA in school, I teach a deaf tutee (PSLE level) at the Toa Payoh community center. The student takes many more breaks and requires a lot more patience, which is something I believe I have a lot of! I mostly taught him Math and English and had to do so with sign language or writing down on paper. Although it was tough, I did enjoy teaching him and I do believe he had learned well.    Although my experiences are limited to 2 students, I would still say I am quite fond of teaching. My biggest strength is patience and I believe I am a competent tutor!
