Tutor’s Teaching Background

Hwa Chong Economics Peer Tutoring 2020. Online tutoring for juniors in HCJC where I learnt how to better teach economics online using useful tools like online whiteboard to better explain the subject with diagrams and graphs.

My past tutoring experiences have been mainly in teaching as part of my school's peer tutoring program or as a volunteer at community centres. Under the peer tutoring program, I had the opportunity to help my juniors with economic concepts during a time of circuit breaker. This gave me a platform to learn how to better communicate ideas on an online platform such as virtual whiteboards and zoom. Personally, I enjoy teaching tuition as it gives me a sense of satisfaction when I am able to help students clear their past misconceptions or to even develop a sudden interest in subjects that they were previously afraid of. As a tutor, I will definitely do my utmost best in helping clear the issues that the student may be facing. I believe that to best maximise the session, I will like to structure the lesson largely based on a QnA session where the student can either bring up any concerns they may have with certain questions types or topics for me to go through during the lesson. This can better iron out any misconception and will be more effective than doing practices during the session. I am also open to helping the student with any practice papers that they wish to do in their free time during the session. They can also definitely WhatsApp me possible queries throughout the week and I will be more than happy to help!
