Tutor’s Teaching Background

I was a student care teacher for approximately 2.5 years in primary schools. I have taught in 3 MOE schools during this period. I thus have experience teaching Mathematics and English for all levels from p1-p6. I conduct lessons to help them with their homework, create lesson plans and materials to help slow learners to grasp content better; and also conduct lessons for creative writing to improve their writing skills. Hence, I am very much familiar with the current MOE syllabus and I am always updating my teaching skills. I make it a point to set a rapport with the students as well, so they will feel comfortable and slowly feel confident. What is most important for me is that the child improves over time and develops an understanding of concepts.

I do not prefer to only use paper and pen to teach children. Especially when teaching concepts to younger or special children, sensory and kinesthetic learning is important for them to grasp the concepts. I will prepare these materials before class so that your child can have a more experiential learning. I currently have materials for phonics and preschool- lower primary English (Flashcards for Alphabets, digraphs, CVCs, tactile Alphabets, basic literacy, and numeracy categories and sand play). It is also important for me when teaching a child with special needs that they are motivated by using their own strengths and interest during the lesson. If a parent only wants me to use pen and paper I can adapt to that as well. 

I have been tutoring Maths and English for the past 1 year. My students have completed doing their PSLE this year (2020). One of my students was a slow learner with suspected learning difficulties. Currently, I am taking a student for Secondary 1 maths and another student (Special needs) for Primary 3 phonics.
