Tutor’s Teaching Background

I am a dedicated and experienced GP educator who brings a diverse professional background and proven track record. Having worked in the sustainability, tech, and innovation sectors, I am able to provide students with the contemporary insights necessary to excel in GP. I have guided students from a range of schools, including Millenia Institute, Yishun Innova Junior College, Anglo-Chinese Junior College, River Valley High, and Victoria Junior College. My methods have yielded tangible growth: Recently guided a student from an "S" grade to an "A" in her Promotional Examinations. My prior experience coaching debate at Anglican High and storytelling at Singapore American School allows me to engage students from diverse backgrounds (IP, JCs, and International). Students feedback that my lessons are "well-structured," "engaging," and “very helpful”; while previous MOE teachers I’ve worked closely with have described me as “patient and caring”, “an absolute professional”, “thoughtful and meticulous”, and “always having the students’ best interests at heart”. My teaching approach prioritises first principles over rote memorisation. Drawing on my background in competitive debate coaching, I equip students with the critical thinking frameworks necessary to navigate any surprises in exams with clarity and confidence. Lessons are supported by curated materials, and are balanced between information sharing, discussions, and writing exercises. My approach to teaching the subject is as such: Paper 1: 1) We discuss case studies in class. Moving beyond “stiff” examples, students learn to analyse global issues through an interdisciplinary lens, building a content base that is adaptable to multiple topics. 2) I guide students through the end-to-end process of essay writing—from question analysis, to essay planning and actual writing. This is supplemented by targeted technical drills on introductions, topic sentences, and more. Paper 2: 1) I provide frameworks that help students decode common question types, ensuring they understand exactly what the examiner is looking for. 2) Lessons involve guided practices, which are step-by-step walkthroughs of answering comprehension questions. They are also supported by various technical drills. I look forward to working closely with students and parents who resonate with my teaching philosophy.
