Tutor’s Teaching Background

Despite having no formal education in teaching, I do have some experience. After completing my business (marketing) degree in NTU last year, I took up tutoring whilst looking for a full time job. Interestingly, my current tutee is also a Non-Malay student and in K2 at that time. I taught her Malay (1h) and English/Math (30mins alternate) once a week. As of now, she is finishing her first year in Primary 1 and has made great improvement in her Malay language - in writing and speech. Additionally, I will also do my due diligence to ensure that I understand the current syllabus, basic subject rules, paper components and exam strategies so that I can guide my tutee to the best of my ability. I believe that a good command of language requires constant practice - through spoken, reading or in writing. As such, I would love to use my lessons to help my tutee focus/work on areas that she has concerns with or eager to improve on. For any homework related help, the tutee can let me know/contact me anytime for guidance. For starters, I may require him to do a paper to understand possible areas of focus. That being said, I would love to understand her and her parent’s concerns and objectives for the subject. My tentative lesson flow will be as follows: (1) Recap of previous session/Introduction of new component, (2) Guided-independent practices with tips & tricks to look out for, (3) Going through practice, problem areas, Q&A I also host occasional show & tell/reading with the child at the start/end of lessons. For online zoom/skype/googlehangout lessons (if any), i will be using powerpoint slides/notes to teach live on screen. Any practice materials that will be used will be sent prior via email, whatsapp/tele (whichever is convenient) for my tutee. She can choose to do it digitally or print it out. As someone who has an interest in teaching and the Malay language in particular, I would love to have the opportunity to help our younger generation learn and enjoy languages better.
