Tutor’s Teaching Background

With close to 18 years of music-related experience, 15 years of studying the violin, and 2 years of private teaching, I have been very fortunate being able to have hands-on experiences during my Bachelor’s Degree years for two semesters on educating both children who have learned the instruments priorly and also children who have not had any experience playing musical instruments before. On both occasions, the children were a diverse group of pre-schoolers, elementary, middle school and high school students who were of very different levels. During my high school years, I went to Cambodia with my class to teach children arts and exposed them to choral singing. I was also appointed as a section leader in our school’s string ensemble and was given the role to hold sectionals on my own when I was 16 for half a year. That was my very first time being exposed to teaching and I realised how much it relates to how we practice on our own. Therefore by being a good educator, it also requires one to be independent and organised during our self-practice.
While studying for my degree, I was well liked by my peers and mentors, and was honoured to be placed on the school’s Dean’s List earlier this year. My goal as a musician is to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to appreciate music. As an educator, I would love to not only teach my students the technical aspects of music and violin playing but also allow them to grow their passion and broaden their interests for music. To enable this, I would have to come up with innovative ways as well as methods that would suit the different age groups of students and at the same time, providing a fun learning environment for them.

Apart from teaching, I perform regularly both in Singapore and abroad since the age of 9. I have clinched awards from various competitions and also been awarded awards for artistic excellence.
