Tutor’s Teaching Background

Tutoring Experiences:

1. Taught a 15-year old boy English (International school student) before in Malaysia. Included literature, creative writing and reading

2. Taught a group (6 Primary 1-6 children) in a home tutoring setting before in Chinese and English language in Malaysia.

3. Taught in a phonics school to children age 4-10 in Malaysia. Lessons included individual and small group phonics and reading.

School Teaching Experiences:

1.  Early Childhood Teacher in KHI Preschool, Seri Kembangan, Selangor, Malaysia

• Successfully created the buy-in for the school principal and teaching staff, refined and integrated the Montessori philosophy into the school’s existing curriculum

• Led, coordinated and successfully implemented the school’s Family Day with a team of teachers.

• Provided effective mentorship for two trainees, by adopting a systematic and empowering lesson study approach, involving personalised coaching through regular co-teaching and lesson observations, lesson refinements, and reflection sessions.

• Curated suitable nutrition menus and enrichment programme such as gardening lessons, and implemented with the teachers, to ensure the optimal and holistic development of the children in the school.

2.  Curriculum Specialist in Odyssey, the Global Preschool

• Plan termly curriculum, prepare and create a conducive classroom environment according to the Reggio Emilia approach with consideration of the individual child’s ability.

• Co-design and develop stimulating and engaging project-based learning with my team of teachers to create a platform for children to collaborate with their peers, develop critical thinking skills, and showcase their abilities.

• Plan termly curriculum according to the theme of the term. Working towards preparing and creating a conducive learning environment indoors as well as outdoors according to the topic, and with consideration of individual child’s ability and learning disposition.

• Vet and review the centre teachers’ lesson plan, curriculum updates to parents to ensure standards and consistent implementation of curriculum throughout the school.

• Work closely with the Principal to identify staff professional learning needs and organise meetings or in-house training to promote collaborative and peer learning.
