Tutor’s Teaching Background
I joined UCLA’s (University of California, Los Angeles) student-run club "Students Organize For Syria" to provide free English tutoring for Middle Eastern immigrants in the Greater Los Angeles area. I was a tutor with this organisation for 2 years.
As a tutor, teaching elemental English as a second language, I learned how to synthesize complex concepts into smaller, understandable components. The language barrier was often challenging, but I learned how to convey the meaning of words and phrases by using an array of examples drawn from my students’ own personal lives. I provided support for school examinations, homework, and day-to-day communication needs.
In addition to this experience, I currently mentor one of my colleagues in a couple of projects that we are collaborating on. Due to the nature of my work as a software developer, the skills I am tutoring my colleague on are mainly programming skills, although there are some other skills I advise him on which pertain to things such as project managment.
