Tutor’s Teaching Background

As a private tutor since 2016, I specialise in teaching Phonics and English to young children under the age of 12. I have taught these subjects since 2016, to children both typically developing and with special needs. I have a "Know It- Teach It: Phonics and Early Reading Skills" certification from the British Council. Schools i've worked in include the Learning Lab enrichment centre as well as Presbyterian Community Services, where i assisted in childcare centre curriculum planning. Most recently, i worked at Rosebrook Developmental Centre, a private school for both local and international students. All children I taught demonstrated a keen interest in my lessons and developed an ability to recognise letters and sounds and articulate themselves. I also achieved my objective of inspiring a love for reading. A successful case I taught was an apathetic 6 year old boy who started Phonics late and had to be prepared for Primary 1 urgently. He initially demonstrated pathological demand avoidance but with my patient efforts to build a relationship with him and leverage on his interests, he gradually began to develop a desire to read and learn as well as the confidence to do so. Another 8 year old child with global developmental delay and dyslexia was eventually able to read without letter manipulatives after 9 months of lessons. My lessons are bespoke, involving a multi-sensory approach to learning in addition to following the Jolly Phonics syllabus. Jolly Phonics is a premium, highly effective and fun programme that teaches children to learn letter sounds and form words as quickly as possible.   Client and student testimonials are available upon request.  Tutor is confident in delivering results.
